AES will be celebrating Read Across America on Monday, March 2nd. We have an exciting day planned with have guest readers coming into classrooms.

Read Across America Day, also known as Dr Seuss Day, is a yearly observance in the USA inaugurated by the NEA (National Education Association).

NEA launched the Read Across America, which is an initiative on reading that began in 1997, to encourage children in reading more books and also getting them excited about reading. On 2 March 1998, the first Read Across America Day was celebrated; since then, it has been held annually. The special day mainly focuses on motivating children to read as it improves their performance in school.

Arcata Elementary School will have a special guest speaker Wednesday, March 4th. Lucy Meyer, spokesperson for the Special Olympics - UNICEF USA Partnership for children with disabilities, will be talking to students and spreading the message of acceptance and inclusion. We are very excited to have Lucy visit our school!

Join our AES Bobcat Running Team!

Students are invited to join the team and participate in the 2020 Foggy Bottom Fun on Sunday, March 8th. Registration forms are available at school. The team will meet at 1:15pm in the parking lot of the US Bank (corner of Ocean and Main).

Each student participant is $12 and the deadline for the school registration is Wednesday, Feb. 12th. Parents are encouraged to participate and sign up to be a chaperone to walk/run with the team.
