Bronze Level PBIS COMPLETED!

We did it! Thanks to all the hard work by our PBIS team we completed the first level!
The California PBIS Coalition recognizes Arcata Elementary
School of the Arcata Elementary School District for the successful PBIS implementation at the BRONZE level. Our school is a recipient within the California PBIS Coalition’s System
of Recognition, reflecting excellence in the implementation of the core features of PBIS.
To acknowledge this honor, our school’s name will be displayed on the California PBIS Coalition webpage and posted at the 6th Annual California PBIS Conference in Sacramento on September 13-15, 2021.

Loving Solution Parenting Class Begins September 7th

The Arcata Police Department's Juvenile Diversion Team is hosting Loving Solutions, parenting support for children ages 5-10 years old. The 10-week class is each Tuesday beginning on September 7th, 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm. Call to reserve your spot - 825-2535.
This class is live, in-person, dinner and childcare is provided. Masks are required for adults and children.

School Starts August 31st

Our 2021-2022 school year begins on Tuesday, August 31st. We look forward to seeing everyone!
Ready to register at AES? You can register online (link on our web page) or in person beginning Wednesday, August 18th.

Summer School

We would love to see your child be part of our summer school program! This year our program will be designed using Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge. As a result, students develop deep content knowledge as well as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills. Students will be building reading, writing, math, and social skills during this four-week session.
The last day to register is May 28, 2021.

New Picnic Tables

We have new picnic tables for students! Five tables were delivered today and they look fabulous!

CAASPP Testing Beginning in May for Grades 3-5

As you may know, each year in the Spring, districts and schools are charged with administering the Smarter Balanced California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) to students in grades 3–8 and 11th. On March 16, 2021, the California State Board of Education (SBE) took action to move forward with the administration of the CAASPP for the 2020-21 year, but with great sensitivity to the additional stress that annual assessments can place on teachers and students.
