ASD Citizens’ Oversight Committee Seeks Applicants
The Arcata School District Board of Trustees is seeking applicants for a Citizens’ Oversight Committee for Measures H and I, which the public overwhelmingly supported in the November 2016 election for school infrastructure improvements, teacher retention, student programs, and increased student safety. The Committee has the responsibility of informing the public concerning the expenditures of the Measure H parcel tax and the Measure I bond, as well as making an annual report to the Board and the community regarding the District’s adherence to the law and to the text and intention of the Measures related to expenditures of these funds. The Committee will meet at least one time per year, with members serving for a two-year term, for no more than two consecutive terms. State law requires that the Committee be composed as follows, with only certain members required to live within the District:
-One member active in a business organization representing the business community located within the District
-One member active in a senior citizens’ organization
-One member active in a bona fide taxpayers’ organization
-One member who is a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the District
-One member who is the parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the District, and who is active in a parent-teacher organization such as the PTO or School Site Council
-Two other members, selected from the public at large
