Diversity Audit for Our Library
Our librarian at AES, Mrs. Allen, has started a diversity audit of our library collection. With the help of Ryan Keller, the Library Media/Learning Specialist at the Humboldt County Office of Education, Mrs. Allen will be collecting data about our library books.
The data will help us learn the percentage of books that reflect various identities (Indigenous, POC, White, people with disabilities, LBGTQ, and more), and then we can target underrepresented areas that need more books. Our goal is to include as many books as possible to reflect the diversity that we have at AES.
It's a BIG project. Mrs. Allen will be auditing one category of books at a time. Our first audit will be our picture book collection. We look forward to keep you updated on our progress.
